3 Swoonworthy Movies with Jennifer Haymore

Hi all! I’m Jennifer Haymore, the author of swoony historical romances. My book, THE DUKE’S RULE OF ENGAGEMENT, is on sale this week for just $0.99, so be sure to check it out!

I love movies—all of them! But particularly romance movies. I went through the hundreds of romantic movies I’ve watched and, honestly, I can’t choose favorites. I love so many movies that end with that ahhhhhh of a happily ever after! But today I want to recommend three standouts to all of you.

Notting Hill (1999)

This is a reverse-Cinderella, misunderstanding romance. What makes it special is the goofy, naïve hilariousness of very middle-class British Hugh Grant and his chemistry with Julia Roberts, a hardened, cynical American movie star. The end is classic romantic comedy, with a chase scene, some great groveling, and the epilogue that will have all you romance readers swooning! I don’t want to spoil it, so if you haven’t seen it already, it’s a must-see.

Yesterday (2019)

This is a friends-to-lovers, unrequited love, alternate universe romance in which the musician hero, Jack, (Himesh Patel) suddenly finds himself in a world where the Beatles never existed. It centers a lot on Jack’s moral dilemma as he finds himself a huge pop star…by essentially plagiarizing the Beatles. His love interest is Ellie (Lily James, who I love from Downton Abbey!), who serves as his moral compass as he comes to terms with his unsavory stardom. I love alternate universes, and this one, chock full of awesome Beatles songs, a great hero’s journey, and a sweet romance, is utterly charming.

The Princess Bride (1987)

C’mon…you’ve seen The Princess Bride, haven’t you? Then we can all gush about it together! This movie has it all: adventure, comedy, a dread pirate and a dastardly villain, a dollop of history, romance, a dashing hero, Andre the Giant, quotable classic lines… And on and on! The heroine’s name is Princess Buttercup, for goodness sakes! Pure fun from beginning to end.

Joanna Porter loves being one of London’s hottest up-and-coming matchmakers. But her heavenly vocation is about to turn into a nuptial nightmare—thanks to the Duke of Crestmont. He’s as handsome as he is insufferable and obsessed with all things proper. Matching him would cement Jo’s status as England’s greatest matchmaker. Except, of course, the impossible-to-please duke refuses all of her most eligible ladies…confirming his status as a complete and utter pain in her petticoats.

The Duke of Crestmont can’t believe he needs a matchmaker—let alone this spitfire of a woman whose kissable mouth and dancing, impertinent gray eyes tease him ruthlessly. But the people of his estate are counting on him to find a duchess. A proper lady with a flawless pedigree and immaculate deportment. So why can’t he stop himself from wanting his pert, lively matchmaker…instead of the perfect duchess?

Now the entire ton is watching as this determined, audacious matchmaker takes on the most powerful man in London in USA Today bestselling author Jennifer Haymore’s lively new Regency romp. And this show might just be the most outrageous one yet…
