My Top 5 Favorite Cocktails for Summer
Summer is finally here! And now that it is, there’s nothing I like more than sitting on my back deck, listening to the sounds of the forest, reading a good book, and sipping a tasty drink at the end of the day… Unless I can be sitting on a beach, in the sun, with my toes in the sand and a drink in my hand. Regardless or your location, sometimes you just need a good drink to toast to summer! Just remember to drink responsibly, and if you can’t, find a sober buddy to get you home safe!
1.Cosmopolitan – A sexy classic that you can order anywhere, even if it’s not on the menu. What’s not to love? Cranberry, vodka, triple sec, and lime mixed into a martin glass becomes pink perfection. Sweet and tart, it’s always a good choice. And I’m a very lucky lady… my husband makes an amazing cosmo.
2.Old Fashioned – This one is simple and sophisticated. It’s one you can feel confident ordering in pretty much any social situation, no matter the company. Whiskey, sugar, bitters, and orange. Sounds unusual but tastes fantastic. This is a drink you sip and savor. Maybe enjoy with a fancy cheese plate or a few late-night gooey s’mores around the fire pit.
3.Washington Apple – This is almost a mash-up of the previous two drinks. Whiskey mixed with cranberry and some sour apple…Yum! Strong yet easily drinkable. Too easily drinkable. You have to be careful with these! They sneak up on you if you’re not paying attention. Definitely a drink you should sip but could chug. Lol.
4.Arnold Palmer – These are traditionally a non-alcoholic beverage, and nothing says summer like a tall glass of iced tea mixed with lemonade. But if you’re feeling like you’d like a little more kick in your drink, you can make a tipsy version by adding a shot of your favorite spirit. I usually go for vodka, but I’ve also seen it offered with whiskey, flavored vodkas, bourbon, or even tequila.
5.Rum Punch – Nothing will make you feel like you’re on vacation faster than a rum punch! Mix up your favorite fruit juices with a good splash of rum – coconut, dark, white, or any combination! Add a slice of pineapple to the rim and you’ve got yourself a Caribbean vacation in a cup!
