#Top5 with Wendy LaCapra

Part of what I love about writing and reading Historical Romance the constant tension between passion and restraint, and classic period movies beautifully illustrated that tension. And, for my author #TopFive I’m sharing some of the moments that tear out my heart in the best of ways.

Number Five:
Viola’s look back in Shakespeare in Love aka how to silently tell a man you love him in front of a theater full of people without betraying you both (Gwyneth Paltrow)

Number Four:
The Moment when Elinor’s dreams come back to life (As interpreted by Emma Thompson in the 1995 Sense and Sensibility)

Number Three:
Colin Firth as Darcy in Pride and Prejudice, sipping tea. Och, the contrast between the dainty teacup and his smolder! KILLS ME every time.

Number Two:
Alan Rickman as Colonel Brandon requesting he be given ‘some occupation,’ some way to be of service to the near-death Marianne. His worry is palpable. Tears!

Number One:
Richard Armitage as John Thornton in North and South, murmur-pleading with the departing heroine for one, last moment of eye contact. GAH! Gives me chills every time.

Sigh.

Check out Wendy’s new release Scandal in Spades!

The Marquess of Bromton has just learned that he’s a bastard. Feeling his honor is at stake, he attempts to bestow his estate upon a rightful heir by manipulating a high-stakes card game. But the winner demands more than Bromton bargained for—a marriage…to his spinster sister. Lady Katherine may be the least marriageable lady in all of England, but a child of their union would be a rightful heir…

Scandal has hardened Lady Katherine and narrowed her world to duty and family. There’s nothing to be trusted in the Society she left behind…especially not the imperious marquess with his single-minded pursuit. Or his knee-weakening kisses. Except, the more their connection deepens, the more Bromton surprises Katherine. But the truth about their courtship could destroy everything…

Wendy LaCapra has been reading romance since she sneaked into the adult section at the library and discovered Victoria Holt & Jane Aiken Hodge. From that point on, she dreamed of creating fictional worlds with as much richness, intrigue and passion as she found within those books. Her stories have placed in several contests, including the 2012 Golden Heart. She lives in NYC with her husband and loves to hear from readers.
