Entangled in Romance with Taryn Leigh Taylor

Happy holidays! All month long meet some of our authors and their best selling books.

Today we’re getting to know Taryn Leigh Taylor and her hero and heroine from Taking a Shot!

*****

Hey, everyone! I’m Taryn Leigh Taylor, and my favourite thing about the holiday season is hanging out with the people who mean the most to me. I think there’s something so amazing about reconnecting with friends and family before launching into a brand new year.

Favorite Holiday Song:

I am a total sucker for All I Want For Christmas Is You by Mariah Carey. I love all the traditional carols, but this song is an Xmas dance party extravaganza for me. (And my mom. And sometimes, if I catch him on the right day, my dad will join in.) It always puts me in a festive mood.

Favorite Holiday Food:

Butter tarts. It’s a Canadian thing.

Favorite Holiday Movie:

The Cutting Edge. I know it’s technically not an Xmas movie–although they do exchange Christmas presents, so that kind of counts, right?–but it’s one that I love to rewatch during the holidays.

Are you the type of person who on November 1st…thinks it’s time to break out the Christmas music or thinks It’s not even Thanksgiving yet folks!

Canadian Thanksgiving is long over by November, but here we honour our servicemen and women on Remembrance Day, which is November 11th, so I prefer to wait until after that to decorate outdoors for the holidays. Indoor decorations and Christmas music in stores is another story, though. I’m on team December 1st for that stuff.

Are you one of those shoppers who has gone through your list and are done shopping well ahead of Christmas or are you elbowing people out of your way on Christmas Eve to finish your shopping?

I refuse to be embarrassed that I have, in fact, shopped on Christmas Eve. You might not get exactly what you’re looking for, but fellow shoppers are incredibly kind and patient that day. (It’s because we all know we screwed up, sure, but it restores my faith in humanity a little.)

Get to Know The Characters From Taking a Shot…

Hero’s Name: Brett Sillinger

Heroine’s Name: Chelsea London

What would the perfect gift your hero would give your heroine and why?

Red lingerie, no doubt about it. Because after their no-names night of passion, all Brett had was the lacy scarlett bra his mystery woman left behind, and it almost became this symbol of the woman who rocked his world. I think he’d want to give Type-A Chelsea the sexy confidence she had that night she took a little detour into bad-girldom. Also, Brett knows it’s the kind of present that would pay off for him, too.

What would the perfect gift your heroine would give your hero and why?

I know this is totally lame, but I think maybe Chelsea would have the same idea? Granted, her pick of red lingerie might be a little tamer, but I love the idea that they would both value the way they met and want to honour it for that first Christmas together.

Where would your hero or heroine secretly hang some mistletoe to catch an extra special holiday kiss and why?

I think Brett might hang some on the rearview mirror of his Lamborghini, because he keeps the car in Portland, where his family lives, instead of in Billings, where he plays hockey, and I think it’s the kind of surprise he’d have in store for Chelsea if he was bringing her home for Christmas. (Is Brett a total sap, or am I? It’s definitely one of us. *wink*)

Excerpt from Taking a Shot

“Are you sure about this?”

Her nerves flooded back in like the tide.

“What?” Was he bailing on her? He couldn’t bail on her! They hadn’t completed her checklist yet.

“Look, Red. You seem like a nice girl.”

Nice. That was the kiss of death. I can be bad. Give me a chance.

“And I’m flattered as hell that you want to have your way with me.”

She did. She really did.

“But usually in a situation like ours, there would be some foreplay by this point—your basic making out, maybe some torn clothing if things were going really well. Instead, you’re looking at me like maybe you’ve changed your mind, and I’m…”

He sighed, then ran a hand back and forth over his hair, mussing it up in a preview of what it would look like once she got her hands all over him. Her palms prickled in anticipation.

“Look, don’t take this wrong, because there is nothing I want more than to push you up against that wall and feel your curves all over me, but I’m in kind of a bad place right now. Cursed, some people might say. And I gotta wonder if maybe this is one of those situations that we should just

chalk up to shitty timing. But honestly, what the hell kind of thing is that to be thinking when a beautiful, sexy woman wants to take you upstairs?”

Oh geez. Even him trying to brush her off had her closer to orgasm than Dustin had ever managed.

Dangerous men with big shoulders didn’t say sweet things like that. Didn’t put a girl at ease by confessing that he had some doubts too. Didn’t turn her on even more by not trying to play it cool.

She’d found the ultimate prospect for her foray over to the dark side, and she was about to lose everything due to cowardice.

So Chelsea did the only thing she could—she commenced sexy times. Reaching forward, she grabbed two fistfuls of leather and pulled him close enough to seize his lips in a kiss that spiralled out of control so quickly, his earlier talk of torn clothing was this close to becoming prophecy.

God, his mouth was perfect. She was obviously acquiring a taste for whiskey, because the hint of it on his tongue was almost as delicious as the hard strength of his body.

His hand came up to brace the back of her head, and she pressed against him as he licked into her mouth, kissing her with such raw passion that she forgot to breathe.

It was everything she wanted, everything she’d been looking for tonight.

He dragged his hand from her hair to her cheek, and then his touch was gone and the pressure of his lips decreased. She tried to follow his lead, to pull back, but despite her best intentions, she didn’t get more than an inch from his mouth. Her chest heaved as she stood there, clinging to his jacket, wondering how the night could possibly get any better.
