DIY Bedroom Toys — the feather tickler

I’m thrilled to be joining the Entangled team with my May 21st release, Laying Pipe. My writing celebrates women’s sensuality and sexual exploration, always within the confines of a caring, if naughty, relationship. For many of us, keeping the excitement going in the bedroom can be difficult in the face of daily responsibilities or the fact that many humans are hard wired for novelty. But that happens in other aspects of our lives too. That favorite meal, after eating it way too often, becomes stale, and we want something new.

However, it’s super easy to mix things up in the bedroom, and one of the quickest ways is to add a little eroticism with an inexpensive mask (try the dollar store) and a feather tickler that you can make yourself. Start with a trip the hobby shop and buy a large, soft ostrich feather. PROJECT DONE.

Well, not really. I wanted to make mine look romantic, so I got matching ribbon (white feathers for sweet or black for mysterious) and wrapped it around the shaft. Use tape or a little tacky glue to secure it at the top and then circle it down until you get to the bottom. Here you want to secure it again. Then take a separate piece of the same ribbon and tie a cute little bow at the bottom to conceal the end of the ribbon. PROJECT REALLY DONE! (Here I am with my white tickler in a gift basket.)

While you might want to show it off creation to your lover…don’t. Wait for a night when you have the time for a relaxed encounter and spring your surprise. Trust, so important in any relationship, may be needed to convince the wary to allow you to play with them sight unseen. Once agreed, blindfold your partner and bring out your toy. I think you can take it from here, although I’ll add that alternating the tantalizing soft caress with the occasional sting of something firmer raises the experience to a higher level. Add restraints and your lover is at your mercy.

Restraints! Isn’t that BDSM? You don’t have to go full Red Room of Pain to play a little in the bedroom. Trying just about anything new can bring on the fireworks. AND, this is really important—it isn’t always going to be a success. Just laugh it off and throw out that idea (or toy) and try something else. We do this all the time out of the bedroom. New recipes. New hair styles. It’s doubly important in our sexual lives, because—and I truly believe this—sex is one of God’s greatest gifts. Even if you’re not a believer, the amazing experience of human procreation is worthy of the term miracle from start to finish and rates a little effort, in whatever form works for you.

For the kink curious, my April website on KateAllure.com is all about DIY adult toys with several useful online resources. There’s even a link to a fun, and funny, YouTube series. The specific video I link to is on making your own crop for people handy with tools—might be a way to get your handyman (could be a handywoman too) interested in your bedroom upgrade project. And, in Laying Pipe, my heroine, a formerly lonely librarian, discovers that her hunky plumber can be very creative with his plumbing kit. And she loves every minute of it!

Wishing you a summer of happy reading and exciting bedroom exploration!

Lexie Kosta runs a small-town library by day, renovates her rundown beach house by night, and spends her free moments devouring kinky BDSM romance novels. She never thought she’d find a man who could fulfill her hidden desires…until Joe Van der Meer walks into her library. He’s cocky and sexy and witty—and when they share a steamy kiss behind the stacks…Dayum! But she’ll never see him again, right?

Wrong.

When a pipe bursts in her home, she’s forced to call an emergency plumber—who turns out to be Joe. Things really heat up after Lexie’s erotic novels inspire Joe to play kinky plumber…applying his tools in ingenious new ways.

Warning: You’ll never look at a drill the same way again…
