Writer Rituals

I’m Lisa Kessler, and I write dark paranormal romance for Entangled. I’m often asked if I have any rituals or quirks when I’m writing… Quirks? Me? Ha!

Okay I’m kidding, I do have a couple things.

First off, I’m a “Night Owl”. I do my best most creative writing after dark. This also helps because one of my big writing rituals is candles. I love writing on my little netbook with candles burning beside me. If I get stuck, I can stare into the flames and regain my focus.

But it doesn’t end there…  I also chew gum. Actually “chew” is probably too polite. When I’m working, I chomp gum like a cow. My husband can tell how the writing is going by how high the gum wrapper pile is stacked around my keyboard. (Trident Bubble Gum flavor is my go-to flavor)

If you follow me on social media, you’ve probably also noticed that when I’m writing, my posts usually end with *typetypetype*. Readers started asking me to post a video, and with my daughter’s help, I donned my writing cloak and made this epic video of me working on my next book… LOL

And if you watched the 6 second video, you probably already know that my last ritual is laughter. My stories may be dark, but in real life, I’m the first in line to laugh…

Life’s too short not to have fun, right?
