Are you a pantser or a plotter?

I start off as a plotter. I need to know what’s going to happen in each chapter before I start, but once I begin writing, sometimes the characters take over the story, and I become a pantser. It’s wonderful when the unexpected happens.

Where does the magic happen?  Where do you write?

I write mainly in my bedroom away from the noise of the rest of the family, but I do also sometimes move to the kitchen, especially when I need a change of scenery. I write mostly during the day as I am definitely not a night owl.

Do you have any hobbies or special interests you’d care to share?

From time to time I like to try my hand at drawing, though I’m not very good at it. Drawing is a very relaxing pastime. A few years back I did a mixed media course which was lovely, but since then writing has taken up all of my time.

What jobs have you had on your way to becoming a writer?

I worked for many years in IT. As a computer programmer I worked for a transport company, state government, and an investment bank. It was much more lucrative than writing, but not nearly as satisfying. While studying at university I also had a part-time job in a shoe shop, which was utterly boring and motivated me even more to finish my studies.

Who are your favorite authors? What authors have influenced your book?

I don’t have any auto-buy authors, but there are some whose books I always enjoy. Meg Benjamin is someone I recently discovered. I’m really looking forward to reading her new book ‘Bolted’, which is part of a wedding continuity. I also loved Gail Carriger’s ‘Parasol Protectorate’ series, and Shannon Stacey writes some fantastic contemporary romance.

Do you prefer print books or eBooks?

Ebooks are so much easier to carry and read. Now that my eyesight isn’t what it used to be, I love being able to enlarge the text.

What’s in the works for you?

I’m polishing up the third and final Real Men book before I send it to my editor. Then I’m working on a time travel novella, plus I’m looking forward to the release of my first book for Entangled Indulgence, which is due out in October!
