I Ship It – Nick and June from The Handmaid’s Tale

I actually had two other couples in mind when I started out writing this. Lucifer and Chloe from Netflix’s Lucifer and Jake and Amy from Brooklyn 99. I heart those couples soooo hard! But then I binged The Handmaid’s Tale, and I just can’t get Nick and June out of my head.

They are so heartbreakingly incredible and tragic I can hardly stand it. I want them to get their HEA so much and I don’t think they ever will. If they stay in Gilead, they’ll never be able to be together. And if they get out…well, they still probably won’t be together as June has a husband she still loves waiting for her. But even if they are ultimately doomed, watching June and Nick find some shred of love and happiness amidst the depths of their terrible circumstances has been the highlight of this show for me.

Here’s a few reasons why:

They do their best to protect, care for, and comfort each other, even though they must hide what they are doing.

Unable to openly love each other, their stolen looks and touches keep them going.

They make the most of any opportunity to touch each other:

Even a single stolen touch packs a powerful punch:

And when they can actually steal a few moments alone together – OMG!

When June sadly tells Nick it’s terrible she’s pregnant, knowing he can never claim their child and that it will be taken from her when born, he tells her it’s NOT terrible. And then drops to his knees and does this.

(Hang on, I have to watch this for a few minutes. I mean *swoon*)

And the one time they were able to spend a few moments together with their baby was heartbreakingly beautiful.

I don’t know what’s in store for these two. With this show, I doubt it’ll end happy. But no matter what, their intense, desperate, and tragically beautiful love story will be with me a long time.
