Whenever I hear the word fairytale, I immediately think of the stories of my youth with a handsome prince and a happily ever after. A fantasy hero enchanted with his heroine, but where romance has to be earned and suffered for before they can ride off into the sunset.
Current fairytales, written in the pages of romance novels, could be described similarly, but today’s Prince Charming is a fireman, police officer, photographer, CEO, attorney, or in the case of my next hero, a former Navy SEAL, now security expert. Picture a cross between the Rock and Mario Lopez. That’s what Clay Doherty looks like in my head. 😀 Clay is a protector, loyal, determined, and not without tragedy. Another fairytale feature that I think cuts across time and place.
But in the modern world, disaster often offers the best kind of meet cute and we all know what that leads to…intense feelings, undeniable attraction (I’m not just talking 6-pack abs, but what’s on the inside, too), and an adventure that brings the hero and heroine to the point of no return.
