Breaking all the rules, that’s what Covet is all about.  The stories are contemporary romances with paranormal twists, and we can’t wait for readers to discover the appeal of these lighter paranormal romances.

We are very excited to announce the new Editorial Director of the line, Candace Havens.  An award winning author herself, Candace has a clear vision for the Covet line and we’re thrilled to welcome her to the Entangled family.

And now, here’s Candace!

When Liz Pelletier called and asked if I wanted this job, I thought she was crazy. I actually called her crazy. But she said, “You’ve been doing this your entire career through your various workshops. You have 2000 students in your workshop who look to you for guidance. You work with writers trying to help them to get published. Now you’ll just have a bit more power and editorial say in how that happens.”

She’s right. It’s a lot of work, I’m not going to lie. But the truth is, I’m having a blast. Eventually I do hope to get to a point where sleep can happen, but as I always say, “Sleep is for the weak.”  (Smile)

I’m so excited about Covet. I love the stories we’re telling.  These are not your grandma’s paranormals!  We have alpha heroes, tough chicks, and spicy romance mixed in with a little magic. Think contemporary romance with a dash of paranormal. Some of the stories are light, and there isn’t as much world building. Other stories might be a little darker with more world building.  Regardless, romance is key.

Right now, I’m on the hunt for a great ghost story, but I don’t want the hero or heroine to be a ghost!  Just ghostly elements, please.  I’d also like to see a contemporary gothic. And I’m extremely interested in mythologies from other cultures. Covets can range in length from 50-70k, though I honestly prefer the shorter books. I keep saying the word contemporary, and I mean it. Some time travel will be considered, but I like stories set in the here and now, or near future.

I’m also calling for novellas that will fit in an Urban Legend Halloween Anthology planned for this year.  The stories must be romantic and tie into an urban legend. You have until July 10th to enter yours for your chance to be in the anthology. You must send in a complete manuscript that is between 15k and 25k.

I also want some paranormal Christmas stories for a holiday anthology. I’d like these all to include or be tied to a holiday folk/fairy tale. Again, the focus of these stories is always the romance. Don’t let the paranormal aspects take over the story.  The deadline for the Christmas anthology is Aug. 5, and those stories are 15k to 25k.

Go through our submissions process, but please note if your story is for one of these specific projects. Think out of the box, people!  I like cool hooks and inventive storytellers. Don’t be afraid to try something new!

  • Yeah Candace!!!
It was just a matter of time. You know I rave about your Fast Draft and Revision Hell workshops. I plan to submit soon. All the best!

  • Huge congratulations Candace. Question for you…what is the absolute lowest that you will go on word count?

Might have your “ghost” story for you.

    Thanks and again, congratulations.

  • This is exciting! The imprint I’ve been anxious to see getting momentum in veteran hands is awesome news. 😀

I’ve been hoping to see a Covet ghost story too and count me in when Covets publicist team starts promoting the anthologies. Congrats on your new post Candace!

  • Woot! Congratulations Candace, I can’t wait to see the Covet line. I know you’ll be a great source of endless entertainment. Best wishes with this new endeavor

  • I have a partial in the slush piles with Entangled which fits perfectly with what you say you want for the Covet line other than it’s 92,000 words. Darn. My hero and heroine are normal, there’s a fun ghost element, and it is set up to be a series evolving around a sexy new single’s town and the ghost.

  • I’m assuming the holiday stories with links to folk/fairy tales have to be contemporary, too, and not set in historic times. (fair tale mode)?

  • Congratulations!!!!!! Love to hear good news like this and especially for someone who gives of themselves as you do.
