Wish List: January 2012 Edition

Happy New Year! Entangled’s 2012 catalog is going to blow readers away, but we’re always on the hunt for riveting stories. Our category-style lines, Lori Wilde’s Indulgence and Nina Bruhns’ Dead Sexy, as well as our shorter romance lines, Flirts (10k-15k words) and Ever Afters (20k-40k words), are still actively acquiring for 2012. Entangled’s main imprint is looking for books for our 2013 catalog and beyond.

As always, please do not query more than one editor within a specific a line (Entangled, Indulgence, Dead Sexy, Flirts, or Ever Afters) with your project at a time. Always refer to our submission guidelines for specific instructions.

Stacy Abrams and her Associates (Entangled) want to see:

  • Contemporary “ripped from the headlines” stories with strong romantic elements, like anything by Jodi Picoult
  • Edgy contemporary YA romance similar to Jennifer Echols’ FORGET YOU or Simone Elkeles’s PERFECT CHEMISTRY
  • Contemporary adult romances in almost any genre, but especially wedding-themed, travel-themed, mystery- or thriller-themed
  • Adult and YA paranormal romances with unique, unseen-before creatures
  • Adult or YA sci-fi
  • Contemporary YA coming-of-age or comedic stories

Submissions for Stacy can be sent directly to stacy (at) entangledpublishing (dot) com. Check out our submission guidelines for specific instructions!

Heather Howland and her Associates (Entangled) want to see:

  • Contemporary YA romance reminiscent of Stephanie Perkins’ LOLA AND THE BOY NEXT DOOR and Jennifer Echol’s FORGET YOU and GOING TOO FAR
  • Intense, contemporary thrillers (YA or adult) that’ll keep me reading late into the night. Bonus points if I’m freaked out enough to make my husband stay up with me! Strong romantic elements required.
  • Gritty and sexy military/Special Ops romance similar to Lora Leigh’s Navy SEALs series
  • Contemporary cowboys and the women who tame them! Give me a series that follows a family of ’em. Bonus points if there’s a younger sister who gets her own book.
  • Light, contemporary adult romance. Favorite themes include: roommates-to-lovers (bonus points if there are multiple roommates in on the plot to get the hero and heroine together), best-friends-to-lovers, forbidden office romance, and best-friend’s-older-brother (or best-friend’s-off-limits-younger-sister) to-lovers

Submissions for Heather can be sent directly to heather (at) entangledpublishing (dot) com. Check out our submission guidelines for specific instructions!

Erin McCormack Molta (Entangled) wants to see:

  • I’m currently fascinated by fractured fairytales. Think about it, all fairytales have romance at their core and it’s a way to lure people in. But I’m looking for fairytales done differently –maybe Prince Charming doesn’t always win the princesses heart, but his brother does –or perhaps it’s the prince who needs saving!
  • Strong heroines always wanted!

Submissions for Erin can be sent directly to erin (at) entangledpublishing (dot) com. Check out our submission guidelines for specific instructions!

Lori Wilde (Indulgence) wants to see:

  • Romantic adventure! Have those characters go somewhere fun and do daring things.
  • Humor. I’m longing for fun reads.
  • Wounded heros. I love scars.
  • A good mistaken identity plot.

Submissions for Lori can be sent directly to lori (at) entangledpublishing (dot) com. Check out our Indulgence submission guidelines for specific instructions!

Alethea Spiridon-Hopson (Indulgence) wants to see:

  • mistaken identity done really well
  • suspense, mystery type stories—something darker, deeper
  • nanny to wife (think modern day Sound of Music, Maria and the Captain)

Submissions for Alethea can be sent directly to alethea (at) entangledpublishing (dot) com. Check out our Indulgence submission guidelines for specific instructions!

Nina Bruhns (Dead Sexy) wants to see:

  • Anything! Really! This is our first month of accepting submissions, so bring it! 🙂
  • lighthearted stories, or stories with a sense of humor
  • character-driven stories (as opposed to plot-driven)
  • super sexy thrillers
  • romantic adventures
  • unusual settings, worldwide (example: Malla Nunn but with romance)
  • westerns (love those cowboys!)
  • intimate strangers
  • alpha heroes
  • authors with lyrical, educated voices (example: Titania Hardie)
  • tightly woven series (examples: my Passion for Danger trilogy; Suzanne
    Brockman) (published authors only please)
  • classic detectives with romance added (examples: Tony Hillerman,
    Elizabeth George)

Submissions for the Dead Sexy editors can be sent directly to deadsexy-submissions (at) entangledpublishing (dot) com. Check out our Dead Sexy submission guidelines for specific instructions!

Anna DeStefano (Dead Sexy) wants to see:

  • My #1 Jan MUST SEE: I’m dying for a GREAT “twins” story, with a inventive/unexpected twist. It’s an amazing hook for a suspense novel. Secret twins, in love with the wrong twin, twin in danger, battling the bad twin… Every time you think it’s all been done before, someone up and surprises you with their creativity. I’d love to be blown away by a submission that takes me on a fun, new twin adventure!
  • Light stories with an edge. Or, edgy stories with a wit that makes me laugh now and then.
  • Plots that explode from page one with excitement and tension.
  • Larger-that-life suspense that I picture myself in the middle of, because it feels like I’ve known your characters my whole life.
  • Bold, sexy heroines and heroes that don’t take c#$p from anyone, even if they’re damaged or in a no-win situation.
  • Big cities and small towns and everything in between, as long as your setting makes me feel like I’ve been there myself.
  • Classic suspense hooks, but crafted in exciting new ways. Leave the clichés at home.
  • Tight writing that is vivid and robust, too. Don’t waste a word, but pull me into your story with your unique voice.

Submissions for the Dead Sexy editors can be sent directly to deadsexy-submissions (at) entangledpublishing (dot) com. Check out our Dead Sexy submission guidelines for specific instructions!

Susan Meier (Dead Sexy) wants to see:

  • I’d really like to see something that makes me believe the hero and heroine really are in danger. In-your-face danger. Villains pushed to the edge, who come out swinging and make me ‘fear’ there might not be a happy ending.
  • Spies or CIA types, but not James Bond. More like True Lies. (Think Linda Howard’s ALL THE QUEEN’S MEN.)

Submissions for the Dead Sexy editors can be sent directly to deadsexy-submissions (at) entangledpublishing (dot) com. Check out our Dead Sexy submission guidelines for specific instructions!

Adrien-Luc Sanders (Flirts & Ever Afters) wants to see:

  • Sci-fi Flirts
  • Missed-chance stories, where two people kept apart by a former mishap or mistake get a second chance.
  • Anything that is not in any way, shape, or form anything that could be considered erotica.

Submission for Adrien can be sent directly to adrien-luc (at) entangledpublishing (dot) com. Check out our Flirt and Ever After submission guidelines for specific instructions!

Things we aren’t likely to request for Entangled’s main imprint:

  • urban fantasy (no HEA in each book, usually follows the same heroine/hero through series)
  • women’s fiction (unless it leans heavily toward contemporary romance, like THE WHAT IF GUY)
  • chick lit (again, unless it leans heavily toward contemporary romance, like BUSTED IN BOLLYWOOD)
