We’re so excited for our new release, Mustang Sassy as it deals with something we all dread and hate… break ups. On the one hand, it can be good to dump all that unwanted weight of a cheating boyfriend. But being the dumpee? *Shudders* That’s when things sometimes go bad. It got us to thinking. Everyone has a worst break up story, and so we are challenging you to share that story. The worse the better, hold no punches… Although it may be tough to beat Sass’s story, so good luck!

In the meantime, we’ve got a story of our own from Casey. She’s kicking things off with her worst break up story. It’s the story of how she broke up with her high school boyfriend…

“My senior year of high school, I started dating my friend’s older brother. (Yeah, I was the cool high school student dating a college boy.) He was so sweet and attentive, never pressured me to do anything – basically, he was perfect and I was content. I wasn’t in love with him, by any means, but I did enjoy hanging out with him. (Hint #1 that the relationship was doomed.)

Well, one night just over two months into our relationship, I was talking about where I wanted to go for college. A Very Important decision for all high school seniors. I told him that I didn’t want to stay in our small hometown and go to the same university as him, but would rather go somewhere else in the state. Where? I had no idea. I hadn’t even started the applications for any school. I was being like almost every other teenager, saying I wanted to leave and travel. Being the perfect boyfriend that he was, his response was, “Okay, I’ll transfer schools and move with you.”

Um. What?

Let me reiterate that we’d been together for about two months, I was not in love with him, I had no idea where I wanted to go, let alone been accepted anywhere and apparently, I have commitment issues. After the date was over, I went home and cried to my mom for over an hour about how weird/crazy/holy-crap-what-just-happened that conversation was. (Huge hint #2 that the relationship was DOOMED.)

I didn’t break up with him then, like I really should have, but we ended up dating for two more months. You know how when you’re mad at someone and suddenly everything they do is awful? That’s pretty much what happened to me. He was still being oh, so perfect and helpful. He tried helping me work on applications for schools (the whole time talking about great the two of us together in a new city would be), he tried helping me study for SATs, and he tried helping me work through a fight with my sister. Nope. I wasn’t having any of it. (Hint number 3 that the relationship was doomed.) There were many other little things that really annoyed me as well, but I won’t go into that.

Finally, one day, we went to a bookstore and I couldn’t take it anymore. I did the completely cliched “It’s me, not you,” line and everything. And he started crying. Crying. I felt soooooooooo bad. It got worse when he started telling me that I was his one true love and he would never find anyone like me again and how could I do this to him? We were great together! Oh yeah, I felt horrible. But I knew staying with him would be worse.

Now, before you condemn me for breaking his heart, I want to add that about three weeks later (maybe less), he started dating a new girl. And according to his sister, (whom I’m still friends with) they’re thinking about getting married now, all these years later. No, I wasn’t the love of his life, but apparently she is. Also, even more ironic, I stayed in our small hometown and went to college there for two years before I was finally able to move out. So, even if we had stayed together, there would have been no need for him to move across the state with me.

Oh, Life. You are so ironic.”

  • I was about 19 or 20 and worked in the same office as this guy. We dated more than a few times and I really liked him. One day, when I was coming back from lunch, I saw him walking into the office holding another girl’s hand. I was devastated.

The following day, I cornered him and made him tell me what was going on. He told me it “just was not working out” and “I did not know how to tell you.”

Although many years have past, I remember it like it was yesterday.

  • Was with my boyfriend for a little over a year. He left for basic training (Marines) we were doing great. Didn’t talk much, due to him not being able to have a cell phone all of the time. A couple of weeks in, he TEXTS ME to say he couldn’t do it anymore. I was completely confused. But what could I really do?
Note to MEN: Never break up with a girl over text !!

  • I broke up w/my boyfriend of 4 years after meeting the man of my dreams. He just wouldn’t give up and finally my new guy had to step in. This really made me realize his strength of character, his stood his ground in a nice way.

  • I was 19 and it was my first serious boyfriend, we dated for about 9 months and I really thought I was starting to fall in love with him. I thought he felt the same way but one day I was on webcam and saw that his was up as well so I clicked the link so I could view him. When the screen popped up he was sitting in his room with another girl on his lap. I picked up my phone and called him and I saw him on the webcam pick his phone up and ignore my call. So I sent him a text and told him I could see him and he freaked out and tried to turned the webcam off. He tried calling me back but I didn’t answer and just broke up with him in a text lol… I was upset but now it’s just funny to think about

  • I had a boyfriend that was 11 years older then me and was divorced and had a little boy i had loved him and him also but he was so into himself i couldnt stand it after awhile that we had broke up over a text message saying its over had enough of you loving yourself

  • I was a senior in high school and fell head over heals in love. He had joined the navy and left on leave. When he came home for a furlough, lets just say I found evidence that he wasn’t as head over heals as I was. I was heart broken but I will never forget what my dad told me. He said to tell the jerk that if and when he ever decided to grow up maybe he would be able to commit to a relationship that would last!!

  • There are some good (or should that be bad?) stories here.

Let’s see, my high school sweetheart and I starting dating on Valentine’s Day. We broke up exactly two years later on Valentine’s Day. They don’t make cards for that!

  • I was living with someone and left him for a vacation of a week. He had to stay and take care of the horses and dogs. When I came home he had hired a new girl to muck stalls. She was 14 years younger but infatuated with him. Needless to say I noticed the mutual admiration society and left with our child. 22 years later after living together he married her!

  • I had just turned 19. My boyfriend had gotten me tickets to a George Strait concert, front row. I was so excited Until we were actually there. He didn’t spend one minute with me. He left me to go “talk to his friends”. About halfway thru the show, I went looking for him. I found his friends and they said they hadn’t seen him since they saw us walk in. I was pissed so I decided I was going to go wait in his car after I got a soda. When I walked up to the car, he was screwing his ex girlfriend. They didn’t even hear me open the car door, or even notice the interior lights go on. I dumped my soda on both of them. Luckily, I knew some of my friends were at the concert and was to find them and get a ride home. Turns out the jackass had been screwing her practically the entire time we were together.

  • Right in the middle of my junior year in high school, my first at a boarding school. Living away from home, learning to be independent, I started dating Steven. He was such a nice guy and I was dating for the first time. I was amazed that anyone liked me.

After a few months, I begin to notice some oddities. He was quite weird and not in a way that meshed with my personality. Still, such a nice guy.

At the end of junior year, I broke up with him and headed home for the summer.

When I arrived back at school for senior year, I started hearing stories. He spent the summer writing songs to me – the best “She’s an angel and a devil”. It was quite the story for much of our senior year!

  • Worst breakup? A guy in high school I was dating was supposed to pick me up so I could accompany him while he babysat his cousin. He got to my house an hour late, broke up with me and then said if I still wanted to go with him to babysit, that would be fine. Really?

  • I had been trying to get rid of my now ex-boyfriend for over a year, and no matter what, he would not move out. He insisted he we loved each other and everything was okay, even though I kept telling him I did not want to be with him anymore and that I wanted him gone. Well, I made plans to celebrate the 4th of July going camping at a campground about an hour away from home. We camped there for a week, and before he got back from the showers on the last day, I had EVERYTHING packed up, left a note on the picnic table, and left his lying, cheating, abusive ass there, with no way to get back to my house. I had made arrangements to have the locks changed while I was camping, so he had NO WAY to get back into the house legally. A week later he came knocking on the door, begging me to take him back, and when he realized he was looking into the barrel of my handgun I bought for protection, he said he was sorry and left. I have not heard from him since.

  • when i was a teen i was dating a guy who wouldnt stop flirting with other girls so i dumped him.he didnt take that very well and wouldnt stop pestering me so i sicked my big brother on him.he left me alone after that
